What do you think of this monster for potential re-conversion back to a family home?
Well reviewed guesthouse not far from us, superb position with views, walking distance to Durham City centre.

I was musing what you could do, the ground floor (7 rooms?) back to dining sitting library music study rooms, using some of the attic bedrooms for hobbies sewing, art etc.

Downsides, we'd need to employ a cleaner, win the lottery. Wife asks could we add an orangery? Seriously 😆

Farnly Tower! I’ve always wanted to live in a house with a name like that.

I suppose I could name mine, but “Little Plastic House in a Cornfield” just doesn’t carry the same weight. 😎

Plastic? Is it modern? On TV American cornfields have wooden houses.

Ours came with the name Cabrach. We discovered this to be gaelic, meaning mossy, and well deserved.

Farnley Tower reminded me of Fawlty Towers and so wasted considerable time finding

House is 8 years old. I say plastic because the siding is vinyl.

              Like plastic shiplap?
              (Sorry if I'm being dim)
We are thinking of replacing our 1962 wood with it... or alternatively repairing bits and repaint.

                Yes, plastic shiplap.

I joke about it but it really is a great material choice for siding. Doesn’t require any maintenance, holds it’s color, lasts along time.

Are the walls of that house original terracotta tiles? It is very attractive both inside and out.

Ours is mainly brick but with three sections of tongue&groove wood

One of the rentals is sided in cedar clapboard. It’s a huge PITA to maintain in this climate.

Methinks they are painted/stained wood shingles.

Here’s a picture of TLPH in the C. Maybe you can use it to help decide what to do on your house.

It may also be painted asphalt shingle siding. It was popular for a while.

@Steve-Miller Didn't think of that. Also a possibility.
