I'm buying a car!
-
I'm buying a fifth generation Toyota Camry (XV30) model years 2002- 6.
I've researched them and they'll last into the high 300,000's and have a very strong reputation for reliability too.
I'm going to find one that's pristine and with a target range of 50k to 80k miles.
Many of you know my Dad died. I miss him.
Still, my brother and I have had a great reunion. Our reunion means a lot to me especially considering my Mom, Dad, and sister are no longer here. It's just my brother and me now.
Anyway, my brother is the sole heir to my Dad's estate.
I was asked to sign a renunciation form without which the estate would have gone through a six month probate process because I am a possible claiment. In other words, I had a legal right to contest it.
So, my brother told me that his Dad, Mom, aunt, and uncle had told him that I already had my inheritance. He asked me if this was true and what was my general understanding the arrangements of this and the previous generation as regarding me.
We were texting. I said that's true! I said I told my Mom she was to make arrangements such that I would inherit nothing from her or my Dad because of what my grandparents had done for me and what they especially my grandmother had given me.
He was delighted to have a meeting of the minds. This kind of situation can get ugly. I know from first hand experience. This was the opposite.
So, we were talking about my Dad's will, I had the opportunity to form a relationship with my brother for the first time in at least fifteen years and to meet a person who had changed so much for the better I might add. It was like meeting the adult and remembering the child again all of a sudden. He's fourteen years younger than me.
So, I said the only thing, not that you owe me anything, and I know it's a lot to ask, but will you buy me a car?
I told him I was going to ask Dad in the fall but I didn't get a chance.
He said he would be happy to do it.
I don't want to Jinx it!
Everything will probably take a few months.

@Daniel Good to hear you've reconnected with your brother.
As for the car, sounds like a good choice. We had a 2003 Toyota Sienna minivan, so the same vintage as the Camry you're planning to buy. We sold it almost three years ago and it was running like a champ. It only had 115K miles. We don't need two cars anymore, which is why we sold it. It could have gone one for a long time. As you note, those engines are solid.

Great resolution for a situation that could have gotten very ugly. I admire your integrity, an asset many others sell very cheaply.
We still have our 2010 Camry XLE. It has 147K on it and runs great. Now, we only drive it maybe 200 miles a year, if that, but still. You'll do well if you can find a creampuff grandma car.
