By now, most of the world recognize AI as a strategic competitive force, and of course that includes China.
This article rounds up China's generative AI large language models (LLMs) and compare them to the American ones like OpenAI and Meta/Facebook's offerings:

Yeah, the Chinese stuff is a lot cheaper, and comes with blind spots about topics the CCP is sensitive about (e.g., won't answer questions about TianAnMan Square massacre), but then there are topics that the likes of ChatGPT will not address as well; just different topics than the models coming out of China.
