This is the building that was demolished to build Trump tower

I've said this many times but there is no protection for historic building in the US.
Exceptions to this rule need to be on the order of the historic Roosevelt estates in Hyde Park, NY, run by the National Park Service.
There are "historic distracts" but wills can be broken by courts after death (and are) and historic distracts are mandated to participate in "public private partnerships".
The private entity, or the government, can demolish historic buildings and/ or estates (and they do).
It will surprise nobody that I think Trump tower is a monstrosity of a building.
There's the gold everywhere you look. The exterior looks like a giant set of shelves for potted plants. There's the atrium with it's fake water falls.
Nothing redeems it. Even its views of f central park are sub-par given its street address
I deplore cultural desecration especially because once something is destroyed it can never be recreated.
But is anyone here surprised by this?
