Pay Stay-at-Home Parents to Care for Their Children with Public Funds

My take:
- I think it's generally a good idea to subsidize childcare for low-income parents, and the publicly funded benefits should also apply to parents who choose to stay at home to care for their own children (as opposed to only let the money go to professional third-party caregivers).
- I would like to see more funding allocated to childcare subsidies, which this proposal does not do. The proposal merely redistributes existing funding (taking from the same pot of money that used to go to professional third-party caregivers to give to some stay-at-home parents). This will likely reshuffle the deck and lead to some working parents losing childcare services that would then force them to quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents.
- I don't like the restriction that limits this proposed benefits to married parents only. Single parents, divorced parents, widowed parents ... they are parents too and should be eligible for the same benefits. Restricting the benefits to "married parents only" starts an unnecessary culture war that may weaken the support for the proposal.

Also maybe I’ve been watching too much Handmaid’s Tale but because of the source it feels like the next step is MAKE “a spouse” (let’s be honest, they mean wife) stay home and sell it by saying they get paid anyway.

I'll have to consider the pay issue.
But come meet some 5 yrs old kids in FL home schooled by fundamentalist parents (I'm being rhetorical, to avoid any misunderstanding).
At least, the problem in this case is the state requirements for this type of education are low and enforcement of compliance to achievement (and process) are low.

@dolmansaxlil I grew up believing in the rights enshrined in our Constitution, especially First (freedom of speech, separation of church and state, others) and Fourth (warrant required, no presumption of guilt).
The current environment often makes no rhyme or reason in comparison, and that's an understatement.
Some people want to nuke the earth to go to heaven. I mean I'll just say it. And these same people are trying to impose Christian nationalism in the US.
