I believe it. I've heard over and again about poverty and deprivation in the UK that borders on being almost unbelievable, for example, households with restricted hours of heat in winter and ones with restricted hours of water.
It's the sixth richest country, but it seems to have followed similar economic patterns as have been followed in the US from the '70's to the present.
