I think there's enough toxic chemicals that won't go away it's safe to say they're forever. Could we filter all the toxic chemicals in the air, land, and sea, or even come close? We're as likely to colonize Mars.
I've seen the plastic in the Pacific wash up on some beached on Hawaii Island uncontrollably. This is to say nothing of nuclear waste. I'm sorry but we live in a toxic planet and we'll die on it too.
