Maybe they'll make it up in volume

I got an email from our electric utility a few weeks ago with an offer for a weatherproofing kit for $10 and/or an an air purifier for an additional $25. Both were really good deals so I placed an order.
That same utility has a rebate program for energy efficient appliances, including dehumidifiers and air purifiers. We purchased a new dehumidifier a few months ago and got that $50 rebate, which was nice. Just for grins, I applied for the air purifier rebate. I was just notified that our application was approved and that there is a $45 air purifier rebate check in the mail.
Spent: $35
Rebate: $45
End result: I have a bunch of weatherproofing stuff worth maybe $35, a $75 air purifier, and ten bucks in my pocket.

Those utility offers are often a great deal. I insulated the attic at one house for exactly what the utility rebate covered.
Even better was the water company offer to swap older toilets for new ones. I swapped out 6 toilets in the apartment building, mostly because the old ones were shot.
