A trip to The Lake
-
Our summer vacations usually entailed a trip up to the Lac du Flambeau area of Wisconsin. We'd rent a cabin at a "resort" on one of the many lakes. Tiny rooms, with the only lighting coming from a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling.
Dad loved the fishing. I loved the chipmunks. Mom hated the whole experience.
Dad is the one standing up. And that's me, age 10, giving fishing a try.
Lake towns around the country:
What was your family summer vacation like?

WTTW (Chicago's PBS station) had a Geoffrey Baer documentary about vacations that folks from Chicago take. Lots of fun!

Fun to see ELY, MN on that list. We lived there for a year when I was a little kid. Haven’t been back since.
My parents liked local CA mountain lakes for vacations and would usually rent cabins. Big Bear, Arrowhead, Lake Gregory. They never wanted to drive much farther but since then I’ve stayed at each of the CA and AZ lakes on the list as well as many others.
Now it’s all Lake Erie all the time!

When I lived in LA we would head for Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mohave for long weekends, camping and water skiing. Fun.
As a kid my dad did not fish, but mom remembered her days riding so we went to dude ranches in the U.P. and in Wisconsin, or we went to visit relatives.
WTG, Janet's family had vacations much like yours, maybe even the same lakes.
