I sort of refused to believe it, but I was at a garage sale the other day, and they had a long-handled hoe for $5, and my herb plot needed weeding, so what the hell, I bought it.</p>
<p dir="auto">It’s a game-changer.  So much easier than bending over and gets under the root system to lift them out.  Apart from some tough woody things, it does it all.</p>
<p dir="auto">It’s not a great-quality hoe—the blade is only attached by friction—but so far I’m very pleased.</p>

Sounds like a dutch hoe which are great for weeding.<br />
On heavy soil, draw hoes are useful too.</p>
<p dir="auto">We had neighbours from Sri Lanka who used a short handled grub hoe for digging &amp; planting vegetables.  Only garden tool I ever saw then use!</p>
